Contrary to what you might think, the word savage was invented in 1250-1300. More importantly, the epitome of that word has lived even before that time.
Yes, who other than our super sassy royalties? We have heard great stories about how rich and strong Indian kings and queens were, but there are a few stories of the black sheep in the flock. Let’s delve into that.
Nawab of Junagarh
It is said he owned 800 dogs with the individual attendants for each dog. And when any of his dogs mated, he is said to have spent Lakhs on getting them married.
Nizam of Hyderabad
When the Nizam heard that his wealth was going to be taken away by the government of India, he became very insecure and is said to have hid all his wealth in a large number of trucks which later got infested by termites and moths.
The Royal family of Bikaner
Princess Rajyashree Kumari is a former shooter and also an Arjuna award winner. She owns the heritage hotel and the opulent palace, Lalgarh Mahal, and also heads many charitable trusts.
The ‘Kink’ King
We can’t begin the list with anyone other than Bhupinder Singh, the Maharaja Of Patiala.
He is officially the kinkiest king who ever lived. Obsessed with showing off, the man owned one of the most expensive necklaces ever made which is priced at $25 million (Yes, the one he is wearing).
He was the first man in India to ever own an aircraft and also built a runway for the same. The king had an annual custom of greeting his loyal subjects wearing nothing but his diamond breastplate, while those in attendance would appreciate his magical erection and genitalia.
He had a personal team of surgeons to operate on any of his concubines from his harem, which eventually reached a strength of 350 women. He apparently had orgies with those women.
The $200 Million Paperweight
Mir Osman Ali Khan Siddiqi was the last Nizam of the Princely State of Hyderabad, who was declared as the world’s richest Indian in the 1940s. Just to give you an idea, he had 2 billion dollars in the bank at that time which was almost 2% of the US economy.
The man is the epitome of savagery since he used his money to buy the fifth largest diamond in the world, the Jacob Diamond, which is worth $200 million, and used it as a paperweight. The diamond is now owned by the Government of India.
The Curse Of The Queen
The Wodeyar family took over the Mysore Empire after killing their king. The queen managed to flee, not for long though as she was captured a few days later. But the queen, just like many former queens decided to commit suicide before receiving the punishment of a traitor.
She cursed the Wodeyar family to an heirless future before her death. The curse started turning true. Multiple methods were applied to reverse it, including installing and praying before her statue.
Clearly, nothing worked as the last heir of the Wodeyar family, Srikantadatta, died childless leaving no successor to the throne. Her statue is worshipped as a deity to date, in the palace.
