Maharaja Dr. Karni Singh Ji was a distinguished ruler of Bikaner, known for his contributions to sports, politics, and social development. Early Life and Education

Born on April 21, 1924, in the princely state of Bikaner, Maharaja Karni Singh Ji was the son of Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. His education was a blend of traditional royal teachings and modern academic exposure. He completed his studies at Shree Swami Vivekanand College in Mumbai, where he excelled not only in academics but also in sports and leadership.

The Royal Shooter: A Sports Legend

Maharaja Karni Singh Ji was an outstanding marksman who represented India in several international shooting championships, including five Olympic Games from 1960 to 1980. His skills in shooting earned him numerous accolades, and he became a pioneer in promoting the sport across India. His passion for shooting helped lay the foundation for the development of shooting as a mainstream sport in India.

  • First Indian to win a medal in the World Shooting Championships (1970)
  • Five-time Olympian, representing India in Rome (1960), Tokyo (1964), Mexico (1968), Munich (1972), and Moscow (1980)
